These eight guides are written to be read in order, and the order is not arbitrary: each one assumes the one before it. If you have never touched a deck, start with what tarot is, then how to actually run a reading — those two alone are enough to draw something meaningful tonight.
The middle four are reference rather than narrative. The arcana, the four suits, and upright versus reversed are the vocabulary; you will come back to them for months, and there is no reason to memorise any of it up front. Read them once so you know what is in them, then look things up as the cards come.
The last two are about practice rather than knowledge. Asking a question that can actually be answered is the single skill that separates readings which feel useful from readings which feel like horoscopes, and choosing a spread that fits the question is the second. Most beginners skip both and then conclude tarot does not work for them.
Every guide opens with a short version — four lines carrying the whole argument — so you can decide from the top whether you want the rest. Nothing here asks you to believe anything; the cards work as prompts whether or not you think they are more than that.
