Pick a Card

In every other spread the deck hands you a card. Here you pick, and that changes what the reading is doing. The pull you feel toward one pile — before you know anything about it — is the part worth paying attention to. It is not magic; it is you noticing what you want before you have argued yourself out of it.

There is no correct pile. All three are real readings; you are only ever choosing which one is yours today.

Do it fast. The first pile your eye lands on is the answer to a question you have not consciously asked yet, and thinking for thirty seconds only lets you overwrite it with the pile you think you ought to want.

If nothing pulls, that is information too — it usually means the question is not urgent, or that you are asking on someone else's behalf. Put it down and come back tomorrow.

Read your pile fully before looking at the other two. The comparison is a trap: once you have seen a gentler card in pile three you will start negotiating, and the reading stops being about you.

Cards like The Moon and The High Priestess show up here more meaningfully than in a fixed spread, because both are about knowing something before you can explain it — which is exactly what choosing a pile is.

Use it when the question is a mood rather than a decision: what am I carrying today, what is this week about, what am I not saying. Use something structured — Past · Present · Future — when you need the parts of a situation laid out in order.
