Suit of Pentacles Meaning: All 14 Cards, Ace to King
5 min read
The suit of pentacles is the most down-to-earth part of the deck. It covers work, money, health, home and the slow things that grow when you look after them. Some decks call it coins. If a question is about a job, a budget, a routine or a place to live, pentacles are where to look.
What the suit is about
Pentacles are about things you can touch and measure: pay, tools, meals, sleep, the state of your home. The pace is slow and steady. This is the suit that rewards showing up again tomorrow. For how it compares with the other suits, see the four suits explained.
The shadow of pentacles is clinging: to money, to security, to routine, or to the idea that you are only worth what you produce.
The story from Ace to Ten
The Ace is a concrete opportunity you can actually pick up. The Two is juggling priorities, the Three is skilled work done together, and the Four is holding on tight to what you have. The Five is hardship, or feeling left out in the cold. The Six is giving and receiving, with the question of who has power in the exchange.
The Seven is stopping to see what the work has produced so far. The Eight is dedicated practice. The Nine is self-sufficiency, comfort you earned yourself. The Ten is long-term stability, often shared across family or years. The through-line is patience: effort, setback, craft, then something that lasts.
The four court cards
The Page is the student, careful and eager to learn a skill. The Knight is slow and dependable, and will finish what he starts, though he can be stubborn. The Queen is practical and warm, and makes a home out of whatever she has. The King is established and generous, someone who has built security and shares it. These can be people, or the habits you are asked to take on.
When pentacles fill a spread
A spread full of pentacles puts the question in the material world. Ask what small, regular action would help, and whether you are rushing something that needs time. Pentacles describe themes, not instructions. Tarot cannot tell you what to invest in or how to handle a debt, so for financial decisions talk to a qualified adviser.
